A delicious last minute dessert that everyone will love as all of your favourite treats are included! Super chocolatey, and super easy to make!

Brownie trifle

Now, its no secret that I utterly adore christmas.. and now with only TWO days to go.. that’s right TWO DAYS I am sharing my ultimate in easy desserts, that is perfect for a last minute treat for you and your family, or because lets face it.. some people neglect desserts (and I just don’t understand how!)

I decided to make this delicious trifle a chocolatey themed one as I utterly adore chocolate, as you can tell, and because there are so many readily available normal trifles to buy, or even so many more recipes for normal trifles that I thought it would be nice to do something a little different and yet still amazingly delicious!

Shop brought ingredients

For this recipe, I used ready made everything. The brownies are shop bought, but you can obviously use your own if you bake them! If you do, I recommend my triple chocolate brownies, or my chocolate orange brownies as they are both so easy to make, and are so delicious too!

The only real things you have to do in this is whip up the cream, mix together the chocolate and mascarpone (or custard) and then layer everything together! If you want to take some inspiration from my layering on other similar chocolate trifle recipes, check out my black forest trifle or my Terry’s chocolate orange trifle. It really is simple and can be so much fun too!

Layers

I must admit, and you can see, that I never really 100% concentrate on the look of a trifle, as personally, I think it all just pushes together at the end of the day anyway, but even in these photos you can see the layers (just about) and doesn’t it just look utterly scrumptious?!

As the balance of fruit and chocolate is just perfect in my opinion, it doesn’t just have to be a showstopper trifle for christmas! It takes so little time to come together, it could be the perfect dessert for a dinner party or a great pleaser for when a crowd comes together at any time – even anything organised at short notice!

The fresh fruit brightens up the dessert just enough, and gives it that bit of freshness that this sort of dessert will desire. Seriously though, it took me less than 10 minutes to put this dessert together, yet it looks amazing, and EVERYONE will utterly adore it!

Other trifle recipes

In my opinion, you cant beat a good trifle for dessert and I LOVE how adaptable they are (sometime I love a jelly-less trifle)! With trifle flavours from lemon, prosecco and gingerbread to Jaffa Cake, black forest and chocolate orange, you are sure to find a flavour to please a crowd. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 750 g brownie bites (buy pre made)
  • 450 ml double/whipping cream
  • 500 g fresh custard (you can use mascarpone if you prefer!)
  • 200 g dark/milk chocolate chopped
  • 500 g strawberries halved
  • 250 g raspberries
  • 121 g bag Maltesers
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  • Melt the chocolate and custard together until smooth - this can be done in a double-boiler or in a microwave on short bursts - leave to cool slightly
  • In a separate bowl, whip up the double/whipping cream to soft peaks - its better for it to be sloppier rather than over whipped.
  • Layer some of the brownie bites onto the bottom of the dish so its covered (doesn't have to be exact!)
  • Dollop on 1/2 of the chocolate custard mixture and spread evenly. Then layer half of your prepared fruit
  • Add on 1/2 of the whipped cream and spread evenly.
  • Cover the cream layer with the bag of Malteser's and then add the rest of the chocolate custard.
  • Add another layer of brownies around the edge and fill the middle with more raspberries and strawberries.
  • Add the rest of the whipped cream and spread evenly.
  • Cover the top with more fruit and more brownies if you have some left!
  • If you want to add some sprinkles, now is the time to add them! I used some crumbled brownie pieces. Refrigerate until needed
  • Enjoy!

Notes

  • I say mascarpone/custard as some people will want custard as custard is traditional in trifles, but I like either. Both make a chocolatey delicious layer that will marry perfectly with the rest of the ingredients either way!
  • I obviously layer mine in the way I do - but this isn't an exact science obviously. (just in case you missed it, my layering is - brownie, chocolate, cream, maltesers, raspberries, cream, brownies, chocolate, strawberries, cream, decorations!)
  • This dessert is very quick to make, but will only last 3 days, covered, in the fridge - keep an eye out for the dates on your fresh ingredients!

ENJOY!
