500gfresh custard(you can use mascarpone if you prefer!)
200gdark/milk chocolatechopped
500gstrawberrieshalved
250graspberries
121gbag Maltesers
Sprinkles
Instructions
Melt the chocolate and custard together until smooth - this can be done in a double-boiler or in a microwave on short bursts - leave to cool slightly
In a separate bowl, whip up the double/whipping cream to soft peaks - its better for it to be sloppier rather than over whipped.
Layer some of the brownie bites onto the bottom of the dish so its covered (doesn't have to be exact!)
Dollop on 1/2 of the chocolate custard mixture and spread evenly. Then layer half of your prepared fruit
Add on 1/2 of the whipped cream and spread evenly.
Cover the cream layer with the bag of Malteser's and then add the rest of the chocolate custard.
Add another layer of brownies around the edge and fill the middle with more raspberries and strawberries.
Add the rest of the whipped cream and spread evenly.
Cover the top with more fruit and more brownies if you have some left!
If you want to add some sprinkles, now is the time to add them! I used some crumbled brownie pieces. Refrigerate until needed
Enjoy!
Notes
I say mascarpone/custard as some people will want custard as custard is traditional in trifles, but I like either. Both make a chocolatey delicious layer that will marry perfectly with the rest of the ingredients either way!
I obviously layer mine in the way I do - but this isn't an exact science obviously. (just in case you missed it, my layering is - brownie, chocolate, cream, maltesers, raspberries, cream, brownies, chocolate, strawberries, cream, decorations!)
This dessert is very quick to make, but will only last 3 days, covered, in the fridge - keep an eye out for the dates on your fresh ingredients!
