Microwave Cookies for Two! (Small Batch Bakes)
*This post may contain affiliate links. Please see my disclosure for more details!*
Easy chocolate chip microwave cookies for two made with only six store cupboard ingredients, and ready to eat in five minutes. They are warm, gooey and perfect served with a scoop of ice cream on top for a super luxurious pudding. I have made this recipe near enough 100 times myself they are THAT quick and good.

Recently I shared my recipe for my triple chocolate cookie dough desserts (which is baked, so just a gooey cookie), and you all LOVED it! I reckon that beauty can be made in a microwave as well, but there is quite a bit too it. There is a lot more cookie dough as well, so you would probably end up with six or so, but delicious.
I therefore decided that I should post this beauty, my microwave cookies for two recipe. I thought about whether I really wanted to try it – because I love making these so much I wanted to be selfish and keep it to myself. I realise that as I am a dessert blogger, this would make no-sense at all.

Using a microwave in baking
The success of these, rely on you know how good your microwave is. I have a 1000W microwave, so it doesn’t take too long to make the cookies at all. However, if you have only a 750W, the timing could be longer. It’s basically impossible for me to give exact timings for everyone who will read this blog, but one or two practice runs won’t hurt!
As you make two of these at the same time, the timing might seem quite long, but if you put two things in a microwave they naturally will take longer to cook in comparison to one. I would say in my microwave one of these would only take 45-50 seconds, but with two in there, it takes 70-90 seconds!

Vanilla or chocolate?
But anyway – these are a ‘vanilla’ cookie you could say – you could add in cocoa powder to make them more chocolate like, if that is what you prefer (I would swap 10g of flour for cocoa). My chocolate mug cakes were chocolatey, and suitably different to these, but if you are after something with more chocolate in then definitely go for those instead!
I do tend to do this in a different bowl, and then add into the mugs because it’s a little bit more work, and I want to make sure everything is suitably mixed, which is why I didn’t call this a ‘mug cookies’ recipe – but you could probably get away with it if you were careful enough! If I am feeling extra lazy, I will use my electric hand whisk to mix it as it’s so much quicker!

Baking tips!
The weird thing about anything ‘baked’ in the microwave is that often the top of the cookie/cake doesn’t look baked. It can have a wet look, like its still raw batter, but in reality it is baked perfectly, or even over done! I always tend to test one quickly with a little scoop out – but then cover in ice cream or extra chocolate!

Servings: 2 People
Ingredients
- 35 g unsalted butter
- 45 g light brown sugar
- 1 medium egg
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 90 g plain flour
- 50-100 g chocolate chips
Instructions
- Add your butter and sugar to a bowl, and beat together!
- Add the egg, flour and vanilla and beat again.
- Add in the chocolate chips and mix in, and split evenly between two microwave safe mugs/ramekins!
- Microwave for 70-100 seconds, and keep an eye on it!
- Serve with extra chocolate, ice cream or anything!
Notes
- I use two ramekins for these – which are a decent size but it makes the cookie look ‘full’. You can use any mug that is microwave safe but the cookie doesn’t really rise so beware of that!
- You can add in 15g of cocoa powder, and use 75g of plain flour if you want them chocolate themed!
- Best eaten warm and fresh.
- The cookie make look raw a bit on top, but its always more cooked inside so make sure to check!
- In my 1000W microwave, these take 70 seconds!
I’ve made several different microwave cakes before and always been really disappointed. I thought I’d have one more go at one and decided to give this one a try. Oh my, it’s actually really delicious! So very quick and easy since you mix everything in one bowl. I used ramekins and found they were the perfect size. I went for 80 grams of white, milk and chocolate chips by Callebaut and did find it was quite sweet so next time I will try it with 50g. Make sure you eat it when it’s still warm as it tasted best then. This one is definitely a keeper!
How many calories for mug?
Thanks Jane!
Is it worth trying these with Reece’s mini peanut butter cups instead of choc chips?
Yes that would work!
Are you sure we are supposed to be putting eggs in the microwave???? I searched on the internet and it said not to put eggs on the microwave. Please tell me because I really want to make cookies. Also can I use cookie mix instead of the dry ingredients will it work.
Eggs in the microwave is absolutely fine.. I’m in the UK and have never heard of that being a problem. If you use cookie mix you aren’t using the recipe so I don’t know.
Perfect for a quick desert 😋
This is my go-to recipe when I want dessert quickly. I make it multiple times some weeks. Absolutely love Jane’s recipes 🙂
Made these a couple of times, I got the flour slightly wrong the first time and ended up not putting as much in. I think I preferred it that way however loved it with the quantity stated above. I find its a bit more cakey with the quantity in the recipe.
I actually made one big cookie for myself with this dough and it was perfect for my greedy self.
Love these! Quick and easy to do when I am fancying something sweet after dinner! Sometimes add a cheeky scoop of biscoff or nutella to them to make them extra naughty 😉
Can you do this in the oven instead ?xx
I would recommend looking at the oven version on my blog instead – this one isn’t designed for the oven x
Should these be cooked on the highest setting in the microwave? Or medium high? X
Highest!
If you were to prep them and cook them later, how long could you leave them in the fridge for before putting them in the microwave?
I would say probably up to 24 hours in the fridge! x
Made these yesterday! My first recipe of yours I have tried, me and my husband loved them so I will definitely be making more of your recipes ☺
